President Adama Barrow has unveiled a major campaign promise ahead of the December 2026 presidential election, pledging a 30 percent salary increase for all civil servants if re-elected, while also expressing his ambition for the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) to remain in power for the next 100 years.
Addressing thousands of supporters at a massive campaign rally in Brikama on Saturday evening, President Barrow outlined what he described as a transformative economic agenda aimed at improving the welfare of public sector workers and consolidating national development.
The Gambian leader told the enthusiastic crowd that his government would prioritise the welfare of civil servants immediately after securing a fresh mandate from voters.
“Come December 5th, 2026, my administration will implement a 30 percent salary increase for civil servants when re-elected to office,” Barrow declared, drawing loud cheers from party supporters gathered at the rally.
The announcement is expected to resonate strongly with public sector employees who have long advocated for improved wages amid rising living costs and economic pressures.
Beyond economic promises, President Barrow also used the platform to articulate an ambitious vision for the future of the National People’s Party. He stated that the NPP’s objective extends beyond the upcoming election, expressing confidence that the party could govern The Gambia for generations to come.
According to Barrow, NPP’s development record, commitment to stability, and investment in national security provide a strong foundation for sustained political leadership.
“Our vision is to build a party that will continue serving Gambians for the next 100 years,” he told supporters, emphasising the importance of maintaining political stability and continuity in governance.
