Camouflage Wear Banned In Gambia

(JollofNews) – The Gambian army is warning against importing and wearing camouflage or regalia resembling military uniforms by civilians and other various security agencies other than the armed forces.

In a statement yesterday, the Gambia National Army, through its Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Omar B. Bojang, said it noted with grave concern a proliferation in the sale and wearing of military regalia by the public.

“These acts are a serious security breach which have far-reaching implications bordering on national security. The use of military fatigue and items in the Gambia are only limited to serving members of the Gambia Armed Forces,” the statement said.

“Consequent upon the above, the general public is hereby strictly warned to desist from such acts. Members of other security services are equally prohibited from the use of military items or wears whether on duty or not.”

The army has urged local businesses and individuals who have already imported military items for the purpose of sale or personal use to surrender them to the Gambia Armed Forces military Police at Yundum, Fajara and Farafenni Barracks or to any nearest military establishment.

  1. This Government is demanding too much; It continues to growl in all the wrong places. Running scared Jammeh will return; Mind where you spit and fart>>>>
    Big Brother Barrow is watching you.

  2. Dr Isatou Sarr

    This is another example of thugs in uniform trampling on the rights of Gambians. This policy is poorly conceived and implemented. Mr Barrow should immediately reserve this directive or whatever it is. It is overreaching and overreacting. When was the last time terrorist wearing military camouflage carried out an act of terror in Gambia? NEVER. When was the last time army officers terrorize The Gambia civilian? Everyday for the last 22 years. Gambians can wear and purchase any article of clothing they choose, it’s our rights. That is non of your business soldier! Go do your job!
    God Bless The Gambia.

  3. It’s is not for the army to dictate to the civilians what to wear and where to purchase their clothing. The army is not the law.. keep you ideas to your self else gambia will be following army rule. Where is the president ? Are you afraid ? Public can wear what they want. A security risk, that’s a laugh. You were all puppets not so many weeks ago

  4. Am a big fan of the army but I think they are wrong on this one. Barrow should stop them now before it’s too late. In Senegal, Mauritania, Mali and many countries in Africa people are free to wear military camouflage why would the Gambian army try to stop people from wearing camouflage. The army wants to control the populace just as Jammeh era, we shouldn’t allow that. I served in one of the best army in the world and nothing like this nonsenses take place.

  5. It’s cheap and hard wearing: The Majority of Gambians have a very limited clothing budget>>>and its cool.

  6. So where is the difference from Jammeh arresting and torturing the Brave Youths for wearing Democracy Tee – Shirts >

    answer>>> there is No difference;

    Big Gaff from The Army….very Big Mistake indeed !!!
