The proprietor of West Coast radio has been ordered by the Banjul High Court to furnish it with the audio clip and transcript of the interview that the Gambia government spokesperson granted to Coffee Time With Peter Gomez in 2024 over the shooting of two paramilitary officers.
The Gambia government spokesman Mr. Ebrima G. Sankareh made incriminating remarks in the audio in question, alleging that the prime suspect in the lethal shooting of the two paramilitaries and the injuring of a female officer was a hired assassin.
It could be recalled that the government mouthpiece granted Coffee Time With Peter Gomez an interview shortly after the prime suspect Ousainou Bojang was arrested.
Mr. Sankareh told Mr. Gomez that Ousainou was the hooded man, who was spotted among crowds of people that turned out for Yankuba Darboe’s trial at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, which later turned violent.
Sankareh hinted that the suspect was a security guard at the Brikama Area Council and was probably contracted by the UDP. He explained to Mr. Gomez that some of the details about Ousainou were given to him by former police chief late Mamour Jobe.
Now, the Banjul High Court, chaired by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, has issued an order for Mr. Gomez to produce the audio clip of the interview before it.
This followed the testimony of Mr. Sankareh under cross-examination led by the defense counsel for the second accused. Counsel Adama Sillah was convinced that Sankareh was not giving adequate answers to his questions and consequently made an application to the court to issue an order to the West Coast’s boss to provide the audio clip and a transcript of the interview.
