It’s having knock-on effects on import businesses as businessmen reliant on import trade using dollar are struggling to access the legal tender.

While some blame the government and ‘unscrupulous’ businessmen for what, they called, an artificially-induced dollar scarcity, others said the development could be one of the ripple effects of a limping tourism industry; the country’s largest foreign exchange earner.

Central Bank of The Gambia has meantime placed a ban on withdrawal of hard currency from banks.
