Jah Oil has increased the price of a bag of cement from D355 to D390.
“This decision was made reluctantly due to significant and unavoidable increases in global market prices for cement and clinker, compounded by the depreciation of the Dalasi against the US Dollar,” the company said in a statement.
The Gambia government sometime last year increased the tariff on a bag of cement from D30 to D180 to “protect local cement producers” but the tariff hike has been causing job losses and cement price volatility and shortages in parts of the country. Only Salaam cement factory produces cement locally.
