Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh, the National Assembly member for Janjanbureh Constituency, has explained his decision to walk out of a committee hearing recently after a video he requested to be played was delayed due to technical problems.
The lawmaker said the video, which relates to a heavy-duty machine valued at 200,000, was important for the proceedings. But the technical team was unable to play it at the time.
“I don’t want to comment on the staff, but the fact is the Standing Select Committee should ensure efficiency in our operations,” Hon. Jammeh told JollofNews. “The issue was a technical challenge, and it has now been sorted out, showing our willingness and commitment to move as a team.”
Committee chairperson Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay confirmed that Jammeh’s request was approved but could not be carried out immediately because of a compatibility issue with the equipment. He added that the staff member responsible for the machine was sick and absent from work that day.
“Honourable Jammeh’s decision to walk away from the hearing is best known to him,” Ceesay said. “We had planned to play the video the following morning. As far as the committee is concerned, this was an internal issue and there is no problem.”
He added that members of the committee, including Jammeh, were disappointed that the video could not be played as planned.
