Gambian politician and United Democratic Party (UDP) member Hon. Karamo Fatty has declared himself the answer to the country’s mounting social and economic challenges, telling supporters and the press that “the Gambia is sinking both day and night.”
Speaking Thursday at the UDP political bureau in Manjai following his vetting by the party’s flagbearer committee, Fatty said it was “high time for Gambians to make a choice,” and urged citizens to rally behind his candidacy.
“I will at least do my best to make sure that food is secured, and the educational system will be fully standard,” he told journalists. Fatty added that quality healthcare, housing, and education would be at the core of his agenda if given the opportunity to lead.
“The people need to have good health, good education, good food, and a very good house to live with their family,” he said, stressing that the Gambia has the resources to achieve these goals. According to him, better management of the country’s tax revenue could transform the nation.
“Even the taxes that are collected in this country, we can change this country if we use it in the right manner,” Fatty argued.
The aspiring flag-bearer expressed confidence that Gambians trust his leadership and ability to deliver on his promises. He praised the UDP’s vetting process, describing it as “democratic” and a step toward strengthening internal party democracy.
Fatty is among several aspirants being considered by the UDP committee as the party works toward selecting its presidential candidate ahead of the next election.
