‘Lang Sonko Nkee Lodges Criminal Complaint Against President Barrow’

In what could be described as unprecedented in this dispensation and an audacious move, Finland-based Gambian political commentator Lang Sonko Nkee has filed a criminal complaint against President Adama Barrow at the Brikama police station on 21 May 2025.

This revelation was made by Mr. Sonko himself, who believed President Barrow should be criminally liable for the blockades imposed on his WhatsApp [by Meta]. To Mr. Sonko, the many blockades that his WhatsApp suffered were due to the “many allegations” that the supporters of the President made to WhatsApp’s parent company against him for contravening community guidelines.

Sonko said he reported The Gambian leader to the regional police Command in the administrative capital of West Coast Region, Brikama, but was referred to the police HQ in Banjul.

He, however, expressed disappointment in the way the police in Brikama treated his complaint.

“I speak the truth and you don’t want to be told the truth. I went to Brikama[police station] and they were telling me to go to Banjul[police HQ]. How can I go to Banjul when yourselves [Brikama police] cannot relay my complaint to Banjul. What am I going to do there?” he fumed.

“But I want to tell you that our parents are equal in this country, and I and you are equal in this country. So, anyone saying you can silence me is a lie because I got messages from some people that they will silence me,” Sonko, a fierce critic of the Barrow, administration stated.
