Reports reaching JollofNews intimated that many entertainment spots in the Palma Rima and Senegambia tourist hubs have been earmarked for demolition and the planned exercise, according to sources, will take effect immediately after the end of tourism minister Abdoulie Jobe’s ongoing tour of tourism facilities.
Sources hinted this medium that many operators, whose businesses are being threatened with the reported planned demolition, are in a heightened state of fear and anxiety over the prospect of losing their livelihoods.
“Many of these operators have been scraping a living in the TDA for decades now and tearing down their businesses will deprive them of their livelihoods and dignity,” one source said.
Minister Jobe and the GTB director-general have been urged to instead direct their time and energy towards tourism promotion rather than promoting activities with the potential of devastating livelihoods.
“The flight tickets are quite expensive and this is one area that the tourism authorities should focus on,” one source said.
“We are in the off-season and the tourism authorities will do a fantastic job if they concentrate on promoting domestic and regional tourism than devising plans to destroy livelihoods,” another source opined.
JollofNews made efforts to get the reaction of both the minister and the GTB DG.
