The National People’s Party (NPP) has announced the death of one of its prominent members, Mrs. Maimuna Janneh of Latrikunda German, describing her passing as a significant loss to the party and the nation.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by NPP, Mrs. Janneh died in Dakar, Senegal, on July 11, 2026. The party said she was widely respected for her dedication, loyalty, and commitment to advancing the ideals of the NPP.
The party’s Secretary General and Leader, President Adama Barrow, together with members of the National Executive Committee, expressed profound sadness over her passing and extended heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.
“Her passing is a tremendous loss to the National People’s Party, her family, friends, and the nation at large,” the statement said.
The NPP announced that funeral prayers (Fidaw) will be held on Sunday, July 12, at the Latrikunda German Mosque at 10:00 a.m., followed by her burial at 11:00 a.m.
The announcement was extended to NPP members, supporters, alliance partners, leaders of political parties, religious leaders, including the Imam Ratib of Banjul, members of the Supreme Islamic Council and the Christian Council, as well as the general public.
President Barrow paid tribute to Mrs. Janneh’s contribution to the party, describing her as a devoted member who served with unwavering loyalty and exceptional dedication.
He said her commitment to national development and the principles of the NPP would be remembered with gratitude and admiration.
The President also prayed for Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive her shortcomings, accept her good deeds, grant her Jannatul Firdaus, and give strength and patience to her family and the wider NPP community during this difficult period.
