In a move aimed at boosting the effectiveness of civil society organisations across the country, Riders for Health has donated a vehicle to the Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO).
The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday and was attended by representatives from both organisations.
The donation is part of Riders for Health’s ongoing efforts to support community development through improved logistics and mobility. By equipping NGOs like TANGO with reliable transport, the organisation hopes to ease the challenges many face in reaching remote areas and delivering essential services.
Speaking at the event, Riders for Health Chairman Ousman Yabo said the vehicle comes with a full support package, including maintenance and fuel, to ensure smooth operations. He emphasised that the gesture is part of a broader initiative.
“This is not an isolated donation,” Yabo said. “We’ve also extended similar support to Bansang General Hospital, Masembeh Village, Kiang Tankular, and Mubarak Medical Clinic. Our goal is to strengthen grassroots access to health and development services.”
TANGO, as the umbrella body for NGOs in The Gambia, plays a central role in coordinating non-governmental efforts and advocating for social justice and development.
Executive Director Ndey Sireng Bakurin welcomed the donation, calling it a timely contribution that would directly enhance their ability to serve member organisations and communities.
“We’re deeply grateful to Riders for Health,” Bakurin said. “This vehicle will be used responsibly and efficiently to support our work across the country.”
The collaboration between Riders for Health and TANGO signals a growing recognition of the importance of logistical support in development work. It also reflects a broader push for partnerships between health-focused entities and organisations working across different sectors.
As both organisations move forward, they say the priority remains clear: ensuring that services reach those who need them most, especially in underserved areas.
