Gambia’s Works Minister Badjie Fired

(JollofNews) – President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia has fired the country’s minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure.

Ousman Badjie, 47, who was appointment to the post in August this year, was sent packing from his office yesterday. No reasons were given for his removal but a statement from the Office of the President said he was removed in accordance with provisions of the country’s constitution.
No successor has been named yet and the position is being overseen by the Office of the President.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Badjie served as minister of the Interior and Religious Affairs from 1999 to 2003. He was also permanent representative of the Gambia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, ambassador to France and permanent delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Tunisia and Cyprus.
