Gambia’s Agriculture Minister Quits

solomon owens deputy agric(JollofNews)-The Gambia’s minister of Agriculture has tendered his immediate resignation from the government of President Yahya Jammeh.

Solomon Owens, 65, who was tasked with the responsibility of reviving the  Gambia’s agricultural output, is said to have handed his resignation letter to Mr Jammeh early this week.solomon owens deputy agric
A statement from the Office of the President said Mr Owen left his position on ‘health grounds’ and the responsibility of ‘running the day-to-day affairs of the ministry falls in the hands of the president, who is now the minister.’

A post graduate diploma holder in agricultural administration and farming system research at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, USA, Mr Owens joined the government of Yahya Jammeh in February 2012 when he was named deputy minister of Agriculture. He was confirmed as minister of Agriculture a month later.
He has many years experience in agricultural research and extension, food security programming, rural development management and administration, project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, environmental impact assessment and institutional capacity building.
