Gambia, others await CAN 2012 draw

The GFA president’s desk should be crowded Monday morning as coach Paul Put and his technical team are expected

to rush in with their plans to take Gambia to the 2012 Cup of Nations. The draw for the competition takes place on Saturday and whatever the format, Paul Put must come up with a master fault free plan that will see the tiny nation to her first appearance in this tourney.
After narrowly missing out and falling short of the second round of the qualifiers  in 2008, expectations are high especially Saturday’s draw will certainly not be cumbersome or complicated as the joint World Cup and Nations Cup of the past two years
On that occasion, football officials in Banjul blamed the “silly rules’ of CAF for Gambia’s elimination even though few bothered to ponder how tough the second round would have been for the Scorpions had they gone through.
Saturday’s draw is expected to throw the nation into a noisy debate as to what policies and plans should be adopted to take Gambia to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, the co hosts of the 2012 event. Recently Parliamentarians demanded to know the salary of the coach and the number of professional players he has at his disposal, suggesting there is huge interest in what he do.
