Gambia’s International Airport To Remain Open For Business

airport Banjul(JollofNews) – The Gambian regime of Yahya Jammeh Thursday said it has no plans to shut down the country’s only international airport amid the deepening political crisis.

Mr Jammeh is alleged to have issued directives for Banjul International Airport to be shut down from January 10th following an announcement by West African leaders that they will travel to the Gambia for the inauguration of Adama Barrow on January 19th.

But in a media statement, Mr Jammeh’s regime said it has not issued any such directives and reassured passengers intending to use the Banjul International Airport that it ‘remains open’ and ‘will remain open’ for business as usual.

The regime said the story about the alleged plans to shut down the airport “are part of a campaign of misinformation and disinformation being orchestrated by enemies of the Gambian state in their unholy objective of fomenting confusion and civil strife among the peace-loving and Allah-fearing Gambian populace.”

Fake News

While urging people to disregard what it described as ‘fake news’ being routinely circulated about the country, the regime said  the Gambia remains and will remain a stable and peaceful state for all its citizens and residents.

Tension is currently high in the small West African nation of less than two million people after President Jammeh, who has governed the Gambia for 22 years rejected the election results.

The dispute over the election results has raised tensions in the region, with both neighbouring countries and international powers urging Mr Jammeh to step down

And as the political crisis deepens, leaders of the West African regional grouping have  authorised a so-called Ecowas Standby Force (ESF) to intervene militarily if Mr Jammeh refuses to give up power when his mandate expires on January 18.

But as the deadline nears, Mr Jammeh who has secured the backing of the Gambian army, is  standing his ground and has vowed to fight off any foreign invasion.

Remember that God is watching over us in this crucial time of our lives. What is politics to destroy the lives of innocent people and their properties? If the contending parties cannot solve their problems peacefully then we the voters are ready to go back to the polls and vote transparently who we wish to work for us. message to Senegal and the ECOWAS, we do not wish to see anyone come in and destroy lives and properties in the name of intervention. We Gambian Voters are ready to sacrifice our hard earned incomes to go back to the polls rather to see the lives of our innocent people lost in the name of dirty politics. long live The Gambia long live the peaceful and tolerant and exceptional people of The Gambia. Gambians loves each other would not standby to see the politicians destroy lives and properties of our dear and peaceful motherland The Gambia.

    • Going back to the pool is a waste of national income ,
The people of Gambia have spoken,
The Ballot is their power, Gambian voted Gambia on December 1, 2016 ,
why the essence of another Re-election , Adama Barrow has won as president
The best way out is Yahya Jammie should step down peacefully for the sake of all Gambian.
22 years ruled is enough, Jammie stole power at the age of 29 years, July 1994, now he is 51 , why can’t he go on his farm and rest and enjoy what he has acquired for the past 22 years.
you see Allah is great, Allah has sent Adama Barrow 51, to continue Jammie Presidency at 51 ,
May the Almighty Allah bless that tiny West Africa state”The Gambia”
