Gambia: Yahya Jammeh Writes To President Barrow

Jammeh waving goodbye to his friends, family and supporters

(JollofNews) – Gambia’s former president, Yahya Jammeh has sent a letter to his successor, Adama Barrow wishing him and his administration well and readiness to give advice and support when needed.

Mr Jammeh who was defeated in last month’s presidential election left into exile on Saturday after as part of a deal brokered by regional group Ecowas. As part of the deal, him and his closed associates were given immunity and safe pass out of the country. He was also allowed to take personal items including luxurious vehicles.

Prior to leaving Banjul, Mr Jammeh wrote an open letter to Mr Barrow stating: “As I have already stepped down as President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, I hereby wish President Adama Barrow all the best from the bottom of my heart. The Almighty Allah has decided and I will be found wanting if I as a Muslim and a former President do not sincerely wish him and his administration all the best. For the welfare of all Gambians, anytime my advice and support is needed by President Adama Barrow; I am ready to offer him sincere advice and services.

On this note, I hereby donate to President Adama Barrow all the rice that is harvested at my Vision 2016 farms, that is the entire harvest for him to give to the women who have been helping at the farms in Central River Region (CRR) as seed rice as most of them had no harvest at all due to the floods.

I hereby appeal to President Adama Barrow and his administration to support Vision 2016 on behalf of the women as this is the only way to ensure food self-sufficiency. “Growing what you eat and eating what we grow.”

On this note, I hereby also appeal to President Barrow to do everything possible to encourage Colonel Baldeh to come back and continue to manage the Vision 2016 Farms as he has an excellent rapport with all the women from different communities that come to work on the farms otherwise it will fail; and this will be a catastrophic blow to the women of CRR and beyond who depend on the Vision 2016 farms not only for quality seed rice given to them free of charge, but Colonel Baldeh have been ensuring that the Vision 2016 tractors plough these women’s fields on time and free of charge thereby boosting their production by also 95% yearly.

To conclude, I call on President Barrow to come in immediately and take over the supreme responsibility of President, Head of State, Commander- in-Chief and First Citizen of our Republic.”

  1. hello to all,
I am biginning to smell a rat from this new government in the Gambia. This is not a good beginning. Mai Ahmad Fatty is just acting as someone doing eye service to President Adama Barrow. I am indeed not happy with the way he is uncontrollably pewing out unverified stories. Cant he leave everything with Halifa Sallah the Coalition Spokesman. Mai Fatty is acting so erratic and unprofessional speculating informations which are totally unfounded.

I dont trust him at all and not comfortable with him being a socalled adviser to President Adama Barrow because he has started misleading him with his unverified and unfounded stories he gathers from the comforts of his Dakar based hotels.

    H. E. Prrsident Adama Bartow be cautious in taking advice from any other person except the Coalition spokesman the most careful Halifa Sallah who goes by facts and facts only not speculations or rumours.

    concern citizen of the Gambia

  2. YALYA JAMMED SHOULD STATE CLEAR FROM THE NEW ADMINISTRATION,WISH THE NEW PRESIDENT A SUCCESS,PUT GAMBIA CITIZEN WHO VOTED U IN MIND ND KEEP UR COMPANGN PROMISE.

  3. Hey Ma, this is a Senegalese brother who has been closely monitoring the Gambian crisis and Happy Jammeh is gone. I noticed though throughout your contributions you are continuously blaming Senegal and acting as if we are responsible for this crisis. Do you know how risky our president and country’s direct involvement this operation has been? We could have inherited terrorists and all sort of bad seed in our country. I don’t think it’s fair or productive for you to try to blame Senegal and paint your new president as a governor or what not to Senegal. It’s not only strategic but the right thing to do for Barrow to stay in Senegal until his security is guaranteed. Senegal and Gambia are 2 countries with one people. Anyone who is trying to dismiss and create controversies is neither Gambian or Senegalese and have their roots elsewhere. Jam ak Jam

  4. That thief should return the money he stole. Because Yahya Jammeh went to the national bank and took 11 million dollars with him on the flight out of the Gambia. Now there is ZERO money. The government of the Gambia has nothing. Yahya Jammeh spend 23 years enriching himself and his corrupt right-wing APRC. No, this man is a criminal and a enemy of the Gambian people. He should be returned and trialed for corruption and abuse of power!

  5. Let all Gambians be calm, Senegal will take care of their affairs and make the Gambia an emerging country within three years. We have the means because we are a rich and prosperous country.

  6. New gambia without brave and independent leaders are going to consult senegal in everything as free senegal buffet will build bridges in all that the outgoing president has denied jammeh has rejected all and has defended the sovereignty of gambia unfortunately we can not do the same as he did we no longer have The courage to defend and depend on ourselves, Senegambia is very close Gambia is drowning disappears from the map, no trust on our security forces it’s a shame

  7. I respect the newly appointed Vice President Tambajang, whom I don’t know personally. There’s certainly no doubt that she is more than capable of playing role of VP, as she’s already embraced with a success story ‘Caolition Success – NEW GAMBIA.
With this in mind, the new government needs to straighten up issues as a matter of urgency. Rules are rules….. consider rewriting constituency rules or create another leading position for Fatou. My fellow Gambians let’s think ahead!

TRANSPERENCY. I am sure the coalition would also scrutinise potential candidates before offering positions!!!!!!
Some suggestions of making some rather controversial figures (‘corrupt businessmen’) ministers is rather scary
What are they doing pushing to meet the president in Senegal? Please let the coalition team have their input with nominees and Barrow a word of advice! – don’t be lead by these evil minds!!! They are corrupt……..

  8. we are all Gambian we sut leave out country in peace for our children’s. we need good leaders OK please please don’t
