(JollofNews) – Incoming managing director of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), Ebrima Sillah, has pledged to protect the editorial independence of the national broadcaster.
Mr Sillah, a former BBC Africa correspondent who also worked for a number of media houses including print, radio, television and online was appointed to the top on Monday.
He said he accepted the job with the condition that the state-owned broadcaster will provide its platform to all concerned while at the same time guard its editorial independence.
“We have to be a truly public service broadcaster committed to advancing and improving the democratic quality of political engagement where citizen views and concerns on everything and on anything is truly expressed,” Mr Sillah said.
“Along the way I may of course step on some toes but that is one big challenge I am prepared to face. It’s the same Ebrima Sillah you knew allow along.”
