Gambia: Ex-Prisons Boss In Police Net

David Colley, Ex-prison Commissioner

(JollofNews) – A former head of Gambia’s prison service who was sacked last week has been arrested and detained by police.

David Colley was picked up on Monday and is said to be helping police with their investigation into undisclosed matters.

Mr Colley’s arrest is part of a crackdown by Gambia’s new government on former senior security officers of the previous regime of Yahya Jammeh suspected of being complicit in the arbitrary arrests, detentions, tortures and disappearances of critics and political opponents.

In a similar development, four soldiers who served in former president Jammeh’s elite unit, The Jungulars have also been detained in connection with ongoing investigations into the torture and murder of political detainees.
