According to sources, the affected bureau, located just opposite the Catholic church around Bakau market, was attacked as faithfuls went to join the Friday congregational prayers.
The lady, overseeing the place has also reportedly joined the congregation at the time of the reported assault.
Sources reported that some of the corrugated iron-sheets of the roofing were removed, allowing the suspected thieves access to the safe.
The police spokesperson when contacted said he did not have such report in his file but promised to liaise with the regional police command.
“They went away with some cash,” sources said.
