Tunisia: Police Demolish Migrants Camp, Set Fire To Their Belongings

Police in Tunisia have Wednesday violently dismantled a migrants camp located in the outskirts of the city of Sfax (Centre West), setting fire to their belongings.

Footages of the sad turn of events were first posted by Ebrahima Drammeh who is the brain behind the social media platform Ebrima Migrants Situation.

Contacted via the social messaging platform Whatsapp, Alhagie Manka confirmed what they are going through.

“We’ve lost everything,” he told JollofNews while struggling to contain his emotions. “Our clothes, foods, money have been burnt to ashes.”

As extreme winter weather is prevailing in Northern Africa, Manka said they cannot still understand why the Police the have opted to destroy their belongings.

According to him, up to 50 migrants comprised of Gambians and Senegalese filled the camp located some 10 km away from Sfax.

Meanwhile, as thousands of Subsaharians continue to make desperate attempts to reach the European citadel, Ebrima Migrants Situation announced today the passing of a young Gambian in Libya.

“A Gambian migrant living in Medina, Tripoli, died some minutes ago in a hospital,” said the migration expert in a succinct post this morning.

But he was quick to add that they are left in the dark about the deceased family members, calling on Gambians to provide the necessary information about Ebrahima Njie.
