Senegal Edges Towards A Major Political Crisis

Barely 24 hours before the beginning of the electoral campaign, reports reaching JollofNews have it that President Macky Sall is set to postpone the February 25, 2024 Presidential election.

A highly placed source confided to JollofNews that Senegalese leader held a ‘very tense’ tête – à – tête with Prime Minister Amadou Bâ.

Over these past days, the Qatar – based politician Karim Wade unleashed an attack against PM Amadou Bâ, accusing him of conniving with two Constitutional Council Judges to invalidate his candidacy.

Subsequently, President Sall gave instructions to Benno Book Yakaar parliamentarians to back the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in setting up an Inquiry Panel to investigate these allegations.

A move that did not sound well with PM Amadou Bâ, who did not appreciate President Sall’s decision to pair up with Karim Wade to undermine him.

To many observers, the Senegalese PM will inexorably thrown in the towel. But it is not yet clear whether he will finally part ways with President Sall.

At a late night press conference, members of Diomaye President Coalition warned the Senegalese leader against interfering with the electoral process, calling the move “illegal.”
