Re: The Gambia Government Stands By Cabinet’s Transportation & Residential Allowance Increment

Press Release Dated: 04th February, 2024

Contrary to recent reports across news media that The Gambia Government has reneged on its promise to increase the ‘Transportation and Residential’ allowances of Civil Servants, members of the public are urged to disregard such allegations as mere speculations. The Gambia Government wishes to reiterate its position that it will very soon, deliver the promised increments of transportation and residential allowances.

Therefore, Cabinet’s 15th November, 2023 approval of the said allowances subsequently published on 19th January, 2024 by the Personnel Management Office still stands and Government has neither suspended nor cancelled the decision.

Ebrima G. Sankareh, The Government Spokesperson & Presidential Diaspora Adviser

Fully conscious of the attendant cost of transportation and residential situation of its workforce, The Gambia Government strongly believes that the proposed increment will help mitigate these financial burdens and motivate its hardworking civil servants.

Ever since coming to power in 2017, President Adama Barrow has twice increased the salaries of Civil Servants to motivate workers and improve their sense of professionalism.

Signed

Ebrima G. Sankareh

The Government Spokesperson & Presidential Diaspora Adviser
