Gambia U-17 Team In Dakar For MRI Test

Gambia’s U-17 football team, also known as the Baby Scorpions, depart Banjul Monday, October 7, 2024, heading to Dakar, Senegal, for the mandatory MRI tests.

These tests are a requirement ahead of the 2024 WAFU Zone A U-17 football tournament.

Coach Yaya Manneh is taking a squad of 35 players to undergo the MRI process, which helps verify the players’ age eligibility for the tournament.

The team has been preparing rigorously with several training sessions at the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum.

Despite their successes at the continental level, having won the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations twice (in 2005 and 2009), the Baby Scorpions have yet to claim the WAFU Zone A U-17 trophy.

The 2024 WAFU Zone A tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Total Energies Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, with both the winner and the runner-up earning spots to represent West Africa.
