Barrow Strike Lifts Gambia To Crucial Win Over Madagascar

Gambia’s crucial 1-0 victory over Madagascar in their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier has significantly boosted their chances of securing a spot in next year’s tournament in Morocco.

Musa Barrow’s decisive goal in the 62nd minute, following a missed penalty earlier, secured three vital points for the Scorpions.

Barrow’s persistence paid off after a cross from Yankuba Minteh found him unmarked, and though his first attempt was blocked, he netted the rebound.

The win lifts Gambia to second place in Group A, tied with Comoros on five points but ahead on goal difference, while Madagascar remains last with two points. Tunisia tops the group with six points and will face Comoros next.

Gambia’s resilience was evident throughout the match, with solid performances from midfielders Ebrima Jarju and Ebou Adams.

Despite Madagascar’s few chances, including a close attempt from Loïc Lapoussin, Gambian goalkeeper Baboucarr Gaye ensured a clean sheet.

As the qualifiers continue, Gambia will aim to maintain their momentum, while Madagascar’s hopes are now slim.
