(JollofNews) – The Gambia government and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Tuesday signed a financing agreement involving $10 million earmarked for the construction of a major rural road linking the north and south of the country.
The project would build the Laminkoto-Passimas road to facilitate the movement of people and goods in that part of the country.
The Gambia government had sought support from its development partners to finance the Laminkoto-Passimus road project.
Abdou Kolley, Gambia’s Finance Minister and Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, director general of BADEA signed the agreement describing it as a testimony to the robust ties between Banjul and the Arab world.
Minister Kolley thanked Dr. Sidi for choosing The Gambia as the first country to visit after assuming the office recently, noting how deeply this was appreciated by the government in Banjul.
He said BADEA is one of the key development partners of The Gambia government and has supported development initiatives in the country over the past decades.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, director general, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) described the signing as testimony of the brotherly relations that binds the BADEA and The Gambia government.
He said that the ceremony also reflected strong mutual interests between The Gambia and the Arab world.
He said BADEA is totally dedicated to supporting developments in Sub-Saharan Africa and has played an instrumental role in mobilizing resources for the current projects.
BADEA allocated $10 million as contribution to the $86 million required to build the Laminkoto-Passimas Road Project.
