A Gambian man who has been on the run for almost a year for shooting dead one man and injuring another man during a communal clash has been detained by police.
Buba Drammeh of Berending was arrested by officers of the Gambia Police Anti Crime Unit during a weekend operation.
He is accused of shooting and killing Buba Jammeh of Gunjur with a single barrel gun during a violent communal clash in March 2019 between the Jammeh Kunda clan of Gunjur and some villagers of Berending in Kombo South, West Coast Region.
He is also accused of shooting and wounding Foday Jammeh of Gunjur during the incident.
A statement from the police did not give details of the arrest but said
“the suspect is currently under police custody helping in investigations.”
While commending efforts of members of the public for providing vital information leading to Drammeh’s arrest, police said the public will be duly informed about the outcome of investigations.
The police have also appealed to individuals with relevant information about the incident to assist thwm with their investigations.
