The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) have commenced the distribution of newly introduced digital camouflage uniforms and tactical equipment to personnel across the various branches of the military, marking a significant upgrade in the force’s standard operational gear.
Speaking to JollofNews about the rollout, Army Public Relations Officer (PRO) Colonel Lamin K. Sanyang said logistical preparations are underway to ensure that all serving personnel receive complete sets of the newly approved military attire and associated equipment.
According to Colonel Sanyang, each serving member is expected to receive two complete sets of the new digital camouflage fatigue, along with modern tactical boots designed for durability during field operations.
The distribution package will also include combat helmets and chest webbing equipment intended to improve personnel protection, mobility and efficiency during military duties.
Colonel Sanyang said the initiative has received strong backing from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who has encouraged personnel to take pride in wearing the newly adopted uniforms as part of the force’s ongoing modernisation efforts.
Addressing concerns over the quality of the newly introduced equipment, Colonel Sanyang described the standard of the items as “top-notch,” adding that the initial response from personnel has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The reception for the quality uniform has been amazing among the men and women of the Gambia Armed Forces,” Sanyang said.
Dedicated distribution teams have already been deployed to various locations to oversee the preliminary issuance of the equipment, ahead of a planned full-scale rollout across military installations nationwide.
The modernisation of uniforms and tactical equipment is part of broader efforts to improve the working conditions of GAF personnel, enhance troop morale and strengthen professional standards within the armed forces.
The initiative is also expected to provide personnel with standardised and more suitable field equipment as the GAF continues efforts to improve its operational readiness and institutional capacity.
