Gambia: UDP Leader Makes Election Pitch To Voters

The leader of the Gambia’s main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) is pitching to voters ahead of next month’s presidential election.

Ousainou Darboe, 73, said the work of his party is centred in its core values including responsive governance and multi-party democracy, zero tolerance on corruption and all forms of organised crime.

In a post on his Facebook page, the UDP leader wrote: “Join us and help bring the change we are all yearning for. The United Democratic Party (UDP) is a national party with an open door policy that allows every Gambian irrespective of gender, race, ethnicity or religious background to join as a bona fide member, participate in the party’s activities, and have your voice heard. We value diversity, equality and social justice.”

Mr Darboe, who previously served as Foreign minister and Vice President in the government of President Adama Barrow added:” Becoming a member of the UDP means you will be joining a vibrant community of selfless patriots who continue to stand ready to promote and defend our democracy, freedom, human and civil rights!
