Adama Sidibeh, the St Johnstone striker, has been left out of the Gambia squad for their upcoming AFCON qualifying matches against Madagascar.
The Scorpions’ manager, Jonathan McKinstry, cited Sidibeh’s recent lack of game time, due to a suspension from a double red card received in a match against Dundee United in August, as the main reason for his omission.
Although Sidibeh was a substitute in Gambia’s September qualifiers, his inactivity at club level has now worked against him.
The 26-year-old has completed a four-match ban and could return for St Johnstone’s match against Rangers on Sunday.
He will then have two weeks to focus on training and hopefully score goals in the Scottish Premiership to regain his place in the Gambia squad.
McKinstry acknowledged Sidibeh’s positive contributions to the national team but emphasised the importance of regular club appearances.
