The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has announced a change in the kickoff time for today’s highly anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier between The Gambia’s local-based Scorpions and Algeria.
Originally scheduled to begin at 19:00 local time, the match will now kick off at 20:30 in Annaba, following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The adjustment was made to accommodate the Gambian team’s delayed arrival in Algeria due to unforeseen flight disruptions.
According to the GFF, CAF’s decision is aimed at ensuring fairness and player welfare, granting the Scorpions adequate time to rest and prepare for the crucial encounter.
“The delay in our team’s arrival was entirely due to logistical issues beyond our control,” the GFF said. “We appreciate CAF’s swift intervention and understanding, as this will help ensure a competitive and entertaining match for all.”
The CHAN qualifiers feature national teams composed exclusively of players who play in their respective domestic leagues.
The Scorpions will be looking to secure a strong result away from home before the return leg.
