Ousainou ANM Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has officially announced plans for an international tour across Europe and the United States scheduled for September 2025. The tour aims to engage with Gambian citizens and supporters residing abroad, reinforcing his party’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and national development.
In a statement released this weekend, Mr. Darboe said the tour would include several European countries, notably the United Kingdom, before continuing on to the United States. It is intended to serve as a platform to meet with Gambians in the diaspora, hear their concerns, and share his vision for a more prosperous and united Gambia.
“This tour is an important opportunity to connect directly with our diaspora communities, listen to your concerns, share our vision for the Gambia, and strengthen our collective efforts for progress and unity,” Mr. Darboe noted.
Diaspora communities have long played a vital role in Gambia’s socio-economic landscape, contributing significantly through remittances, civic engagement, and advocacy for democratic reforms. Mr. Darboe’s upcoming tour reflects a growing recognition of the need to deepen ties with Gambians abroad as stakeholders in national development.
While specific dates and venues are yet to be disclosed, the UDP leader assured that detailed information will be released in due course.
“I look forward to engaging with all of you as we build a stronger, more inclusive future together,” Mr. Darboe added.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm among diaspora groups, many of whom have expressed eagerness to meet and discuss issues ranging from governance and economic development to youth empowerment and electoral reforms.
As Gambia approaches another critical chapter in its democratic journey, such engagements are seen as key to forging stronger unity among Gambians both at home and abroad.
