The Albayrak Group now re-baptized Al Port earlier this year made a strong promise to bring to the Banjul Port new cargo handling equipment but the company has so far failed to make good on this promise.
The Al Port took control of the management and operations of the Banjul Port earlier this year on riding expectations that it would enhance the efficiency of the port through investment in equipment and port’s physical and IT infrastructures.
Shortly after the Turkish company took over the Banjul Port through a 30-year concessionary agreement, its officials promised that Al Port “will soon order” into the country new cargo handling equipment as one of the quick fixes for the congestion at the port.
However, almost six months after making this strong promise, Al Port is still reliant on the cargo handling equipment of the Gambia Port Authority for its cargo handling operations.
Efforts to speak to Al Port officials proved futile.
