Hagi Baniko Denies Role In NAWEC Vehicle Deal, Rejects JollofNews Report

Prominent Gambian businessman and proprietor of Sisoho Oil Enterprise, Mr. Hagi Baniko Sisoho, has strongly refuted allegations published in JollofNews on 17th July 2025, linking him to a controversial D91 million vehicle procurement deal involving the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).

In a press statement released Wednesday, Mr. Sisoho described the report as “false, misleading and a misrepresentation of facts,” firmly denying any involvement in the purchase of 26 pickup trucks for NAWEC, which the report alleged occurred in 2022.

According to the original article, unnamed sources claimed that Mr. Sisoho, who is also associated with the National People’s Party (NPP), played a role in the procurement through a company known as GamGo. However, Mr. Sisoho categorically denied any connection to the company or the transaction in question.

“I have no formal or business relationship with GamGo in any capacity,” he stated. “To suggest that I had any influence or played a role in securing those vehicles is utterly false and misleading.”

Mr. Sisoho, who has been a businessman in The Gambia for over two decades, argued that the publication attempted to tie his name to a matter for political reasons. He emphasized that his business record predates the formation of the NPP and dismissed the claims as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.

“The idea that I have benefited from NAWEC because of my affiliation with the NPP is part of a smear campaign,” he said.

He also expressed disappointment over the lack of effort by JollofNews to seek his side of the story before publication. “Good journalism should be fair and balanced. At no point did JollofNews reach out to me or my management to verify the information they published,” he said, calling the action “unethical and below journalistic standards.”

Mr. Sisoho further urged media institutions to uphold professionalism and factual accuracy in their reporting. He appealed to JollofNews to retract the story, issue a public apology, and clarify what he termed a “malicious” publication.

In closing, Mr. Sisoho reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to national development through job creation and business growth. He assured the public that he remains focused on his goals, despite attempts to distract or discredit him.
