Banjul Ferry Service Faces Backlash Amid Docking Confusion

The Gambia Ferry Service is once again under public scrutiny after both the Kunta Kinteh and Kanilai ferries were seen docked simultaneously at the Banjul terminal, leaving many passengers confused and frustrated.

“Why are both ferries not operational? What’s behind the decision to have them docked at the same time?” asked Adama Bah, a hawker who sells goods on board the Kunta Kinteh ferry.

Passengers say the lack of communication and transparency from ferry authorities has only added to their frustration.

“It’s important for The Gambia Ferry Service to communicate effectively with its customers, especially during disruptions,” said a member of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), who spoke to JollofNews on condition of anonymity. “Providing timely updates would ease concerns and show a real commitment to customer service.”

The ferry service remains a vital link between Banjul and Barra, and many Gambians rely on it daily for transportation and trade. The ongoing issues have raised questions about the management’s ability to ensure reliable operations.

When contacted for comment, officials at The Gambia Ferry Service (GFS) were unable to provide answers regarding the simultaneous docking of the two ferries.

Meanwhile, a sea trawler believed to belong to NEGMAR, a Turkish company, was spotted at the Banjul dockyard carrying out installation works involving the driving of a long iron pile into the riverbed.

The development has sparked speculation among observers about whether the maintenance or installation activity is linked to the ferry disruptions.
