Ex-MP Kaddy Camara Accuses Jammeh Of Failing Foni, Applauds Barrow’s “Unprecedented Progress”

Former National Assembly Member for Foni Bondali, Kaddy Camara, has taken a sharp swipe at ex-president Yahya Jammeh, accusing him and his APRC government of leaving Foni behind despite more than two decades of promises.

Speaking on Saturday during the ongoing nationwide Meet the People Tour in Foni Bondali, Camara said residents of the area were repeatedly assured of development under Jammeh, yet saw little improvement during his 22 years in power. She told the gathering that Foni remained “largely neglected” throughout the period.

Camara, once considered one of Jammeh’s trusted allies in parliament, said the gap between what was pledged and what was delivered had become impossible to ignore. She pointed to the contrast between that record and what she described as visible gains under President Adama Barrow.

According to her, the past eight years have brought what she called “unprecedented progress” to the region. She credited the current administration for putting in place projects and services that residents had waited for over many years.

Her remarks come at a sensitive political moment as talk of Jammeh’s proposed return to The Gambia continues to stir emotions in the Fonis, a stronghold traditionally seen as a safe vote base for the APRC. Camara urged her people to stay calm and avoid being drawn into tensions linked to the former leader.

She said every Gambian living abroad has the right to return home, but insisted that any such move must follow the proper legal procedures. She stressed that respecting the country’s laws and security considerations is essential for maintaining order.
