Gambia: Jammeh Says ‘No Deal’ To Ecowas Mediators

President Jammeh and his vice president with Presidents, Buhari, Sirleaf and Mahama

(JollofNews) – Last ditch attempt by regional leaders to persuade Gambia’s President Jammeh to give up power peacefully at the end of his term have ended in Banjul without any breakthrough.

According reports, which have not been officially confirmed,  Presidents Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and ex-President Mahama of Ghana were unable to convince Mr Jammeh to respect last month’s election results and facilitate a smooth transfer of power.

Mr Jammeh, 51, who has ruled the Gambia for 22 years was defeated in the December election by opposition candidate Adama Barrow.

He had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as rigged proof, but changed his mind a week later and declared the results null and void citing huge and unacceptable mistakes by the electoral commission.
Mr Jammeh later filed a suit at the supreme court asking judges to determine that Adama Barrow was not duly elected or returned as president, and that the said election was void.

But the court is unable to hold a hearing until May – as most of the judges come from neighbouring countries – and Mr Jammeh has said he is going nowhere until then even though his mandate ends on January 18th.

At Friday’s meeting with President Jammeh which last for two hours, reports said the Ecowas delegation who have also met with President-elect Barrow, the Chief Justice of the Gambia, Emmanuel Fagbenle and  two electoral commissioners, made it clear how serious their assignment was and emphasised their determination to find a peaceful solution that accords with the constitution of the Gambia and also reflects the will of the Gambian people as expressed in the December polls.

The team also reiterated the decision made last month by Ecowas head of states in Abuja, Nigeria, to send a Senegal-led military force to intervene militarily in the Gambia and enforce the outcome of the election if he refuses to give up power when his mandate expires on January 18th.

Reports added that Mr Jammeh in response insisted on staying in power until the Supreme Court decides on his election petition in May.
He reportedly  reiterated his earlier position for fresh elections arguing that there were numerous irregularities that marred the December polls and the announcement by the chairman of the electoral commission of two separate sets of results.

Mr Jammeh is also  reported to have asked the mediators to drop the threat of military intervention, which he described as unhelpful.
He also called on them to respect the sovereignty of the Gambia and warned that his regime will defend the country against any outside military invasion.
He said said he is strongly committed to the maintenance of peace and security of the Gambia and the Ecowas sub-region in general, and the peaceful resolution of the impasse through the constitution of the Gambia and to return to the polls.
Meanwhile, President-elect Barrow has left Banjul for Bamako, Mali, where he will give a first hand report on the political standoff at the Africa-France summit.
During the summit, President Buhari will also brief his colleagues about the outcome of his mediation efforts before a final decision is taken by the head of states.

  1. I Applaud all those who are working tirelessly to resolve this situation peacefully and all those who are encouraging dialogue. However the time to take the gloves off is fast approaching. Jammeh is a psychopath so it’s very hard to reason with him. As long as people keep preaching peace Jammeh will feed off on our fear of violence to drag the country further towards it. We have to be realistic and accept the truth. Anyone who thinks that there has been peace in the Gambia for the past 22yrs must be avoiding reality. The mare absence of war those not necessarily mean that there is peace for there can never be peace without justice. We should start speaking to Jammeh in a language that he understands. No one can predict the exact outcome of war but we can rise from the ashes like a phoenix and rebuild our great nation just like Europe and America did. We have the talent and the will to make our country a better place for our children and their children’s children. All the great civilizations of the World has gone through one form of struggle or another and ours won’t be any different. For how long shall we stand aside in the name of peace and watch our people been humiliated, tortured and killed by Jammeh and his cohort? It is time to say enough is enough.

  2. Hello President Jammeh,

I am at a loss as to why you cannot step down peacefully. You do not really have anything to lose. In the circumstance, you can actually negotiate the terms of your departure with Mr. Barrow with input from the other African leaders who are creating a way for a smooth landing for you.
If you step down peacefully, you will have the title of ‘Former President.’ You will still be respected across the world. You will be able to travel, do business, help Africa and the United Nations in various ways. You can even run for The Gambia presidency in the future.
This is the best time for you to take that decision. World opinion is generally against you at this time.
If you try to forcefully remain in power, you will lose everything you have worked for in your life. Some poor Africans will die because of you. The economy of your country will crumble. It is so easy to see the consequences of the path you are following.
You have achieved so much for your age. Your next best achievement is to step down. Just do it! You will not regret it.
    Thank you.

    • NIGERIA AND ECOWAS DECEIVED CHARLES TAYLOR TO STEP DOWN AND ENJOY ASSYLUM IN NIGERIA AND LATER SOLD HIM TO AMERICA’S ICC. PRES JAMMEH DONT MIND THEM IF YOU STEP DOWN I ASSURE YOU THAT HAGUE WILL WELCOME YOU.

      • Did he commit any crime? Why will he be indicted? Look guy the issue of Charles G. Taylor of Liberia is off the Jemmeh’s shore… Taylor was indicted for World Crime against Humanity…

      • Did he commit any crime? Why will he be indicted? Look guy the issue of Charles G. Taylor of Liberia is off the Jemmeh’s shore… Taylor was indicted for World Crime against Humanity…
        Thanks, Preston, Liberia

  3. It is wrong for the for any person, group of people or region to try and intimidate Jammed out of his rights. Jammeh and his party has legitimate claims which cannot be wept under the carpet. The electoral empire changed the election result with two weeks which must be duly challenged in the supreme court. There is no way barrow can be sworn into office with this case being resolved in the court.
Jammeh would not be intimated and must not be intimidated.
    Period.

    • You are an idiot…Is the seat of power only meant for Jammeh and his family?

    • Have you ever heard of the saying “you reap what you sow?” Jammeh is only reaping back the same respect he has had for the country… to make such a statement as yours, I would ask…
Have you read the constitution? Or tried to make a non bias analysis to this political impasse? What about the rights of the people? Those that have been silenced, forced into exile or killed for freedom of speech? Why is it okay for Jammeh to be a law onto himself when it comes to others but for his “rights” choose to subscribe to the constitution? Please ask yourself these questions? And let us know if he still should be heard out.

    • Are there terrorists in The Gambia, within our midst and we don’t even know it? I’m afraid after all is set and done, and calmness return to our beloved country, we don’t want to be surprise by such evilness. I cannot believe what’s happening to our lovely country. May GOD bless us and our beloved Gambia.

    • You mooron, try and educate yourself a bit about the constitution before spewing garbage out of you pie hole. Jammeh is toast come the 19th January 2017 and he knows it. He just want few moorons to take down with him.

  4. Jammer, if you like, choos, former president Gbagbo of Ivory Coast stile or that of , Saddam Hussein of Iraq and Libya Gaddafi, you see, heard disgrace they had to quit the exotic seat and the life they love so much ,there is an adage that says the flies don’t hear words always buried with dead body, a word is enough for a wise.

  5. I think its high time we Gambians prepare ourselves to defend our country from being destroy by Yahya Jammeh’s madness. Only cowards can support the status quo. Yahya brutalize us for 22 years, the disappearances without trace, detention without charge. The killings of perceived enemies, critics and opponents. The unceremonious insulting of my elders, especially those from certain tribes, the tortures, the misuse of our constitution to silence, jailed and oppressed those he swore to love and protect. The looting of the country,3million Dollar home in America.
Yahya Jammeh! you are a devil. You are shameless, classless, remorseless, heartless and yet you paraded yourself in front of all as a true Muslim, Something you used to deceived our people. What legacy are you gonna leave for your offsprings? A tyrant who was chased on the street naked by his own people and spanked to death using slippers, his dead body paraded through the streets. I wondered how you sleep at night for the last 22 years, knowing the amount of people killed, tortured, raped, imprisoned that you ordered Yahya Jammeh. You are a cruel and little man. Wherever you ended up Yahya, alive or dead remember one thing we Gambians have defeated you,but you are a damn sore looser.
Wake up from your slumber Yahya. Wake up your senses and see where your stupidity is leading your people into. War, wanton destruction, separations and fear. Which Allah do you worship Yahya? Strip the white robes and put on your prison uniform, for you are a dangerous man.
You have cornered Gambians for a long time and they are now prepared to set themselves free by any means.
    Down with Yahya Jammeh.

  6. Heavenly advice u speak of Mr Jammeh’s constitutional right to challenge the result, you are right, but he has no rights to defer the ceremony to have president elect Barrow sworn in, during the previous 2 elections which were marred with accusations of being rigged Supreme Court challenges were made democratically by opposition leaders, yet surprise not did me Jammeh wait for the court to decide before being sworn in, of course he didn’t, it’s one rule for him & another for anyone who dares to challenge him, I’m not Gambian but have visited your wonderful country many times, the peoples spirit is an inspiration considering the oppression they deal with daily & have done for 22yrs, this man has no interest in Gambian constitution or its laws, he is just a parasite who feeds on the suffering of others, real Gambians are being displaced through fear because of his theatre of games, innocent people being indirectly threatened because of his thirst for power, let’s not forget Gambian constitution states a president can only rule for 2 consecutive terms, constitutional laws passed supposedly by Jammeh’s government, so why is he still in office, the sadness of all this is that the small nation of Gambia, already struggling with little or no economy is being pushed to the brink of a war they didn’t vote for merely because one man & his closest allies believe they have constitutional rights to do as they please irrespective of the laws they claim to abide by, I prey in the coming days a peaceful solution is found as no blood should be spilt in the name of democracy, I’m concerned for friends I have made in Gambia & all those who voted democratically for change, may Allah give you all strength at this difficult time.

  7. The ECOWAS forces must make the KILLING of Jammeh, his vice, his military officers and their families the topmost agenda. No Gambian civilian must die. Enough of negotiations.

  8. The tobacco running through Mr Jammeh brain will vanish once ECOWAS upgrade his senses with guns.

  9. DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR

Killer Kanyi It’s enlightening that you equate your group and therefore the leadership of Yahya Jammeh to the TERRORIST like BOKO HARAM and the GENOCIDE OF RWANDA don’t you ever dare envoke that dastardly event FOR AFRICANS SAY NEVER AGAIN the perpetrators are either on the run, in jail or DEAD.
THE RWANDANS REBUILT AND THE COUNTRY IS NOW IN FAR BETTER SHAPE THAN THE GAMBIA BY ALL MEANS OFALL DEVELOPMENT.
The Gambian people have had enough of our families being terrorised by you and your lot you mistake loving peace as cowardice.
We now say bring it on ENOUGHS ENOUGH

  10. Our EVIL DEVIL kanilai Mad DOG is now finished just in the final moments…
When one defies the collective peasantry population’s verdict, one defies God Almighty who sanctions that verdict; & everybody knows what that means…
The evidence of President Barrow boarding the plane in this portrait to meet with his fellow president peers is evident enough for anyone in doubt including our EVIL kanilai DEVIL that the EVIL MURDEROUS kanilai FIEFDOM & Terrorism unleashed upon INNOCENT Gambia & humanity at large in the Gambia for past 22 years is ENDING come January 19…
NOBODY human or devil will be able to stop or reverse that; Insha Allah…
    Long live the Gambia…

Comment on Washington Post today (under Jeffrey Smith’s piece on Gambia):

“Yahya Jammeh is a tyrant of the first order. Gambia will never progress and the people will continue to suffer as long as he is in power. I have a Gambian businessman friend who invited me to Gambia to see if I could help him with a number of development projects that he had in mind. We toured a number of facilities and I met several members of the government. There are so many obstacles to development, not least the President himself, that it is quite depressing to try to help. One of the biggest impediments is obtaining finance, given the lack of confidence by potential investors. Another major obstacle to development is lack of power.

We visited an oil-fired electricity generating plant which was an old creaking facility, the sludge from which was stored in huge piles of old oil drums. After many years the drums had leaked so badly that the sludge had found its way to the sea, about 200 yards away, which was a no-go area. Of course, nothing was being done about it. The municipal rubbish dump outside Banjul is a sight to behold. The environment – not one of the President’s priorities! Among the several minsters that I met was the Minister of Technology. He arrived from a foreign trip the day before I left but he agreed to a meeting which I attended on my way to the airport.

He was a very eloquent and intelligent young man with many good ideas. My impression was that he was exactly the sort of person that Gambia needs to have even a small chance of advancement. After the meeting I flew to Dakar.

On arrival there I received a call from my friend in the capital, Banjul. He said that it was a good job that we left the Minister’s office when we did because soon after we left the President’s thugs arrived to arrest him for ‘corruption’! Gambia is a country of smiling, charming people under the suffocating, all powerful, malevolent fist of the President. As long as he is around, there is no hope for the Gambian people.”

  12. Heavenly advice, where in the constitution does it say that the elected president cannot be sworn in because the ex-president challenges the result ? It doesn’t. That is why everyone is saying that Adama Barrow will be the president on Thursday. Just be honest.

  13. Heavenly advice, He came to power illegitimately and he’ll go out because he’s illegitimate.

  14. Thank God for Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. He said that no one’s personal ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. Our leaders should learn from this kind of HEROES.

  15. The immortal Sheikh Professor Rtd. Col. Dr Yahya A.J.J.Jammeh,Babilimansa,the president of The Gambian,is going no where, come rain, come shine and he will rule for a “billion years” and if any one doubts that can go to hell.

  16. But wait. Is Jammeh the only male child in Gambia? Why should he rule Gambia for 22 years yet
He wants to continue? He wants innocent citizen who have been suffering under his tyranny to again
Face the ravages of war? His wife should be able to talk to him. A stitch in time, saves 9.

    • Jammeh married to a woman who was not born in gambia, herself does not care about gambian and jammeh also not a gambian. They are using and killing gambian for their personal interest, but soon sanction will be impose and travel ban.

  17. BABILI MANSA YOU ARE THE CHOICE OF THE MAJORITY. WE ARE NOT BLIND AND WE ARE NOT TRAITORS 22 YEARS OF PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMEN IS WHAT YOU GAVE US.

Jammeh Musa, we are patriotically by your side from now and on and we are ready to die in defending our integrity with the last drop of our blood.

To all those warmongers warning to all of you. Remember that no cockroach will be be spared. The foreign forces you are inviting to help you secure the pesidency for you will be met with an unexpected resistance which will surprise all and sundry. They are relying on their conventional armament superiority but they most know that conventional warfare and guerrila war tactics are not thesame. Senegal you are counting on why cant they uproot the insurgency in Cassamance. Ask the Nigerians why it took them so many years without defeating the Boko Haram.

If they think that if they invade The Gambia to oust Jammeh forcefully and install Barrow is going to be that easy and quick, no its going to be a long battle which they cant sustain and they will end up abandoning The Gambia with their mess.

This is a warning to all the traitors both home and abroad to know that no cockroach will be spared, so let them bite what they can chew or else they will all be choked.

    WARNING WARNING WARNING
BE AWARE OF THE DANGERS YOU ARE CREATING. DONT LIVE IN A GLASS HOUSE AND YET THROWING A STONE.

  18. Killer Kanyi, if he is the choice of the majority then let the matter go to court and be dealt with there or do you prefer war?

  19. How many people innocent people have to die before Jammeh? Killing of thousands of innocent people just to kick Jammeh from the power? Is that make sense? Who’s saying yes because you are out of the country,,Those who provoke wars are the politicians and the first to hide with their relatives while they send us false promises of tranquility, some reason to trust politicians?

    • Yes!!!. and the choice is Jammeh’s to avoid war. You must be a mooron to think that only people who are not in the country are the ones calling for Jammeh’s force removal from office. We are Gambians therefore we have parents, siblings and other relations back in the Gambia. It is much painful for those who are not in the Gambia to loose a love one cause they do not have the opportunities to say a proper goodbye to that love one. I pray to God that you may not experience that pain ever. But needs must.

  20. Yes I prefer war so that i/we can start to exterminate all the cockroaches who are the traitors and sellouts of the Gambia. They are bugs who deserved exteination.

If you invite foreign forces to install your fraudulently elected Barrow to be president by force then you are triggering war and dont fool yourselves that you will emerge winners in this war…. in any war there is no winner if you doubt it ask Libyans, Liberians, Sierra Leoneans, Syrian or Iraqis. Just make all efforts in your warmongering until you start it, you will all regret why you invited war. The colateral cost of damages in both lives and properties can never be replaced or repaired. I think the cost of returning to the polls will be more manageable than going to war.

Food for thought is enough for the wise.

  21. Fools, as worthless as they may be, don’t warrant any responses; lest you tend to give them any value/worth; let’s see who is who, come January 19….
Scaring innocent people in Gambia are OVER & GONE for GOOD; there’s NO turning back; Insha Allah…
    Long live the Gambia…

  22. So killer you think it’s better that the side with the most power should win rather than have justice in the court ? I agree with you that Gambia will be spoilt forever if there is war.

  23. You all knew that Senegal wants to annex The Gambia since Sir Dawda’s regime when they proposed the Senegambia Confederation and it ended up failing. Since then they are searching for ways and means to destabilize The Gambia.

Now that they have achieved what they were eagerly looking for, That is for Gambians to kill each other so that they can extend their territorial rule into the Gambia by installing their puppet who will be answerable to their authority and serve their needs geographically and politically.

But i hope every Gambian with a sound mind should resist invasion and occupation and any Gambian who conievead with them will be labelled as a traitor and a sellout and will be killed like a cockroach. The sovereignty and our national territorial intergrity will never be compromised in any form. That why we are rallying behind the man who jealously guarded that who is Yahya A J J Jammeh Babili Mansa. A true and brave son of The Gambia.

LONGLIVE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE GAMBIA NATIONAL ARMY PRESIDENT YAHYA A J J JAMMEH THE HERO
    LONGLIVE THE GAMBIA

    • This is your tought reason well and admit truth stop supporting yaya jammeh on this issue we will all die some day . He lost in d election for d first time since 1996 and enjoying d seat of presidency . Why is he saying no to d incoming elect Adama Barrow to be d new president of d Gambia as d Gambians decide at d polls in December 2016 . Let jammeh listen d advice of ECOWAS before he will be forcefully remove from power

  24. God sometimes leads us into troubled unknown waters ! But it is not to drown us ! But to cleanse us of evil things ! One love to the citizens of THE GAMBIA ✌️️ #prayingforpeace Ameen

  25. Killer, if the election of Adama Barrow will compromise sovereignty and national territorial integrity, would you therefore never have accepted ,in any circumstance, the election of Adam Barrow as president ?

  26. He must step down that is the best slutuon for the people in Gambia and peacefully. He lost the election and people make her choices and respect the votes from the own people
    .

  27. I can accept if the IEC Chairrman dont make a double declaration of results. He should have kept his mouth shut when he made the first declaration until the incumbent conceded defeat and congratulated Barrow. Just to call again parties and declare another figures is what brought about all this problem.

And after all Barrow in his dull mindedness should have treated it as something Gambian and rely wholly and sorely on Gambian voters and Gambian Religious and Traditional elders but just to traverse the borders and talk to Maky Sall as if Maky voted him into office which aggravated the whole situation beyond control.

Something that is done in The Gambia should be settled in the Gambia, but if you cross the border and talk to someone who is considered any enemy by the incumbent then everything will be seen as such.

    • Man IEC was doing the right thing if any error occured it got be corrects right away than later. Your idea will make situation worse if it got be discovered, human error is likely to happen but the bottom line is both barrow and jammeh are not the benefactor of that minor error infact is mr kandeh, who should complain but the coward want to take the advantage of the situation. Funny thing he is trying to make himself as if he was the vitim.

    • Killer you must have a very short memory or are you just that insincere that you are deliberately ignoring the concession speech of Jammeh the incumbent? Do you prefer that the IEC Chairman deliberately ignore the facts before him? Would you have preferred that he is a crook? Killer you have every right to support and defend Jammeh but try and remain true to yourself. The ballots were counted at the polling stations in the presence of the polling agents of each candidate. Each agent has to confirm the count and then communicate to their party HQ the results. All the results were tallied at each party HQ so the candidates would have known the results even before it was announced by the IEC. It is therefore baseless for Jammeh to complain after the effect because he knew he had lost even before IEC announce the results. He conceded defeat based on the tallied results he received from his agents. It is for this reason that IEC had no choice but to readjust the final figure because it does not tally with what the parties have. Jammeh’s actions can only be described at best as a sore looser and at worst an agitator of conflict. I believe you meant well but just ask yourself why would the IEC Chairman revise Barrow’s margin of victory downwards if he wanted to cheat for him against Jammeh? After all he could have kept quiet on the anomaly until Jammeh is out like you said. Jammeh has become a victim of circumstances of his own creation. If you play with fire you should not be surprised when you get burnt. Jammeh has over the years tinkered the constitution to make it work for him alone. He has first changed the clause that requires presidential candidates to have over 50% to be elected. If he had not changed that clause he could have asked Mama Kandeh to join him in the second round but alas he has spoilt that chance for himself. He has also changed the clause that deals with the transition. He has changed it from the president elect being sworn in the day after winning the elections to sixty days after been elected. Not satisfied with that he changed it to the day after the incumbent’s term expires. Hence the reason why we are in this situation. A situation with no room for him to manoeuvre. Because there is no where in the constitution that allows a president to stay a day beyond the end of their term. Jammeh never for such situations because he never thought that it will apply to him. Killer Kanyi, Jammeh laid the foundation for his ultimate downfall when he gave himself the absolute power of hiring and firing anyone he so wish, including Judges. Jammeh never thought that he will need anyone, instead it’s him that people will always need. He should have read “The Beggars Strike” by Aminata Sow Fall, he would have learnt a very valuable lesson from it. I will recommend it to everyone who had not read it. If not for the simple fact that Jammeh had sacked and on some occasions imprisoned some Judges with impunity, there would have been some around to hear his petition. Jammeh’s actions are not emanating from the believe that he has been wronged but from anger at himself for not seeing this coming. He is annoyed at himself for being the chief architect of his own downfall.

    • Killer Kanyi: You said in reference to the IEC chairman “he should have kept his mouth shot.” This underscore how dishonest you are. If you were the IEC chairman, you would rather cheat and be quite.Your persistent remarks of pending violence insurgency against Gambian children, Women and the elderly will not intimidate us. It just represent how evil you are. I don’t even think you are a Gambian or a Muslim. Just be careful what you wish for others may just come and hunt you.

    • No. No at all true. Killers remain killers. When bankrobbers are at work, it’s a complicated situation because rarely they would be on a just cause. They are psychopaths. They blackmail and all. Some will assign people on murder mission only to distance themselves from those crimes.

Jammeh didn’t think Barrow failed to rely on Gambian entities to solve a Gambian problem peacefully! Jammeh thinks he’s made a God of himself that much, Gambians dare reject him for the country’s presidency that he has clinched himself to for more than two decades. He is jealous that others are fine and well without his lingering shadow of a beast over those people’s livelihood. He is sick in the head and most of those men who might be armed for him are not aware of the fact that their lives don’t worth a tissue paper in Jammeh’s pocket.

  28. I don’t understand when you say “he should have kept his mouth shut when he made the first declaration until the incumbent conceded defeat and congratulated Barrow” why?

  29. people says sometime mistake is common don’t you know! dreaming is not thinking but Palpitation of weakness.

  30. Puppet Barrow i know your foreign backers will used their Military Power to installed you but Gambia will also face a long-term instability.

There will be a long-term insurgency and a guerrila warfare that will bring a huge collateral damage to both lives and properties and make the country ungovernable.

Let every Gambian embrace the reality ahead of them. I agree that you will have your fraudulently elected president forcefully sworn in with the help of his foreign backers but but but Gambia will lost her status as a smiling coast forever. Mali is an example, Libya is another and Nigeria is another living example.

Gambians had long been listening to the horrors of other nations in Sarjo Barrow’s weekly news called Jamano, its the turn of those nations to listen to that of the Gambia. Because i know no good news is coming out of it only sad news.

Gambians be ready for the worst times if you think it is a one day operation and its over then you are wrong. This is going to be a bloodbath and it will shock all of you.

    BE READY FOR THE WORST.

    • Jammeh. Note this that one man cannot fight the world. If the AU, UN and ECOWAS are against your decision to rule again why can’t you give up? It is good to die for death is inevitable, but it is good also to die in peace than to die disgracefully. Never sow seed that you can not reap

  31. Killer I don’t understand when you said of Njie “he should have kept his mouth shut when he made the first declaration until the incumbent conceded defeat and congratulated it Barrow ” what do you mean ?

  32. Hipop:
Mr. Njie is a honest man. I thank him for detecting the errors and rectify them. He did exactly what any honest person should have done, but not to keep quite and hide the real election results.

  33. ‘No Deal’ To Ecowas

Am actually hoping Jammeh did not say this, because this is not a matter for deal making, It was actually meant to be a ultimatum, as in leave or else..!

Giving him option as in offering him asylum was a mere human gesture to help some who at this moment was down on their luck – as face facing grace. It was never meant as a deal1

Jammeh’s understanding of (lack of it) language and his use of laguage is actually the “lead on the rod”, so to speak that always sinks him. Witness for instance, his constant use of the phase “I will not be cheated” when rather than having been “cheated”, he was in fact out flanged and outwitted. The votes he was sure he would have went to the oppposition Mama Kandeh. He was outwitted, and out flanged within the rules of the game – which is first-past-the-post. He clearly was not the first to past-the-post so he was not declared the winner, and this was not because of miscounting or anything illegitimate but, because his strategy for winning has been well read by the opposition and an effective response was put in place to that in in end ensure he did and could not win.

May be his own actions in the past have lead him to believe that “Cheating” was the only way elections are won. No Jammeh you are wrong, very wrong indeed, and never forget where you first heard this! It was the humble, “smelly”, but good-natured, and God fearing Gambians who first told you so – you don’t need to cheat to get ahead , or to ever use such a word again when what you really mean is “I have been outwitted, and outflanged” this time, but I will be back – just like what came out of your mouth before Devil Zainab snarled at you and you changed your tune She probably never heard of the saying “…. one man shall be deterred by many”!

  34. If the constitution explicitly outlines the way forward in such circumstances, which clause is Jammeh quoting to remain in power as his ‘stagemanaged’ crisis is addressed? His lucky days are already behind him as the matter took another turn once it came to the international spotlight and cannot be wished away. His illegitimate attempts to remain intact will only expose the other side of his 22 year leadership once paraded on the international platform. He is simply fighting a losing battle.

  35. With all the pretentious BRAVADO of so-called bravery, our EVIL kanilai DEVIL has stuffed its tail inside its toilet-hole, reportedly running away to “Guinea Conakry” anytime soon with our looted money…
To the contrary, one would’ve expected Our COWARD kanilai MAD DOG & equally EVIL DISCIPLE COHORTS are BRAVE ENOUGH to stick to staying-put to “defending” the MURDEROUS kanilai FIEFDOM with all the pretentious garbage being spewed for the past 22 years, particularly lately…
EVIL yaya KILLER DEVIL can run temporarily but CAN’T hide anywhere world over…
Our kanilai DOG will be extradited subsequently back to to Gambia when the time comes to be accounted by the Truth & Reconciliation to be commissioned, for the HEINOUS CRIMES committed against humanity within & outside Gambia for the past 22 DARK AGE years in our decent history; that will serve good lesson for any EVIL souls in human flesh; particularly is this time & age in Twenty-First Century; Insha Allah…
    Long live the Gambia…

  36. Bajaw, it is against my religion to even call a person a fool. Also ,when years ago somebody told me that “people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, ” I was wounded, as it came from someone who I thought should be an ally. That person however was correct, we need to tread very carefully in this life and be careful not to put fuel on the fire, especially when we are actually ultimately hoping that someone else will put out that fire.
