The tragic electrocution incident in Kerr Galo, North Bank Region of The Gambia, has left the community in profound grief following the loss of seven electricians.
The workers were replacing aging electric poles when one of the poles reportedly collapsed onto live wires, causing the fatal accident.
Initial reports suggested the victims were employees of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), but this was later corrected.
According to Piere Silver, NAWEC’s Public Relations Officer, the workers were actually contractors hired by KEI Construction Company, not NAWEC staff. The Gambia Police Force is actively investigating the incident, seeking to understand the full circumstances that led to the tragedy.
This devastating event has shaken the region, leaving behind grieving families and a community struggling to cope with the sudden and shocking loss of their loved ones.
