Gambia: Fifteen In Custody For Drug-Related Charges

Fifteen people from various parts across The Gambia and its border entry points are in custody after been arrested for allegedly found with suspected Cannabis sativa, a drug made from the dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant.

Sources close to this medium have intimated that all the suspects, who are behind bars, are helping the police and other security apparatus with their investigations of the matter.

Facts about the suspects and their arrests, according to our sources, are as follows:

Twenty-three-year-old Ablie Njie, a resident of Bakau, was arrested on 26 March 2023 at around 14:35hrs with 3 big bundles and 3 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white and brown papers.

Nineteen-year-old Ousman Bojang, a resident of Sukuta, was arrested on 25 March 2023 at around 23:30hrs with 14 parcels of suspected cannabis, concealed in white paper in a transparent nylon bag.

Twenty-one-year-old Muhammed Keita, a resident of Kunkujang, was arrested on 26 March 2023 at around 9:00hrs with 1 big bundle, 18 parcels and 22 wraps of suspected cannabis concealed in cement and white papers and placed inside black and red bags.

Twenty-five-year-old Muhammed Touray, a resident of Baja kunda, was arrested by Basse DLEAG Station on 26 March 2023 at around 8:00hrs with some quantities of suspected cannabis concealed in a cement paper.

Twenty-two-year-old Sebastian Diassy, a Senegalese, was arrested at Jenoi Checkpoint on 27 March 2023 at around 10:05hrs with 2 bundles, 1 wrap and some quantities of suspected cannabis concealed in brown and white papers and placed inside a travelling bag with a white Renault Bus with Registration Number LG 8413B.

Twenty-four-year-old Ahmed Gaye, a Senegalese, was arrested at Jenoi Checkpoint on 27 March 2023 at around 15:00hrs with 11 big bundles of suspected cannabis concealed in a brown paper and placed inside a yellow suitcase on a seven-passenger vehicle with Registration number AA 028 KA.

Twenty-three-year-old Ebrima Cham, a resident of Tanji Village, was arrested on 27 March 2023 at around 20:00hrs with 43 parcels of suspected cannabis concealed in white paper and placed inside his trousers.

Twenty-year-old Musa Kujabi, 42-year-old Yaya Sanyang and a Malang Saidy, who is at large, were also suspects. The two, who are residents of Jalokoto, were arrested by Sibanor DLEAG station on 21 March 2023 with 8 big bundles, 1 parcel and some quantities of suspected cannabis concealed in a cement paper and placed inside a multi-colour nylon bag.

Forty-eight-year-old Karafa Jallow and Buba Jallow, who is at large, and both resident of Nana-ba village, were arrested by Bansang DLEAG station on 21 March 2023 at around 21:40hrs with 2 medium bundles, 56 wraps and one plantation of suspected cannabis concealed in cement and white paper and placed inside a multi-colour nylon bag.

Twenty-four-year-old Jereh Gibba, a resident of Farato Bojang Kunda, was arrested on 22 March 2023 at around 17:34hrs with 3 big bundles, 1 parcels and 297 wraps of suspected cannabis concealed in brown and white papers and placed inside a multi-colour nylon bag.

Twenty-seven-year-old Amadou Faye, a resident of Bakau, was arrested on 24 March 2023 at around 21:50hrs with 3 wraps of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) concealed in a transparent nylon bag.

Forty-nine-year-old Yahya Chune, a resident of Jobe Kunda Village, was arrested by Soma DLEAG station on 25 March 2023 at around 18:30hrs with 1 medium bundle and 16 wraps of suspected cannabis concealed in a cement paper and placed on the ground and covered with some grasses.

All the suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
