The mayor of KMC has called on councillors of the 19 wards of the municipality to make all community centres available to people whose houses were made inhabitable by Saturday floods.
Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda also suggested the repurposing of ward offices to support hubs as he called for the proper coordination of relief efforts.
“You can repurpose your ward offices to become support centres for victims,” Bensouda told councillors on Sunday.
“Victims can declare their loses there. And tell all philanthropists to channel their support to ward offices to avoid duplication of interventions,” he advised.
The KMC mayor also called for the opening of the doors of schools to those in need of shelter as his administration explores other accommodations possibilities such as hotels and hostels.
