A one-time senior staff of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has contended that the roll-back of the KMC health financing scheme by the Talib Bensouda administration suggests lack of sympathy and empathy on the part of the Kanifing Municipality mayor.
The KMC health financing initiative was modelled on other health schemes as a best practice to reduce the burden of out-of-pocket healthcare services expenditure on council staff.
Though, there were suspicions of possible abuse of the KMC health insurance initiative, it has been envied by some outsiders as a clever and empathetic way of making healthcare services accessible to and affordable for the struggling council staff.
“One of the best few things that the Talib administration moved in on to destroy is the council’s health financing scheme. This is the height of callousness on the part of Talib. Many council staff benefited immensely from this scheme, but Talib’s administration decided to eliminate it,” said the former senior KMC staff, who wished to remain anonymous, for fear of reprisals.
It has been established that the KMC health financing scheme was indeed scrapped by the Bensouda administration, which many said emphasizes the lack of sympathy and empathy on the part of the young mayor and his team.
