(JollofNews) – West Midlands Police have arrested a second man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Gambian teenager in the Northfield area of Birmingham.
Sheriff Mbye, 18, who lives with his parents in Lee Bank, died in hospital a few hours after he received multiple stab wounds in a scuffle which saw another man, 19, also sustain serious stab wounds. That man is currently in a critical condition in hospital. A post mortem examination has confirmed on Saturday that Sheriff had died from knife injuries.
Detectives said an 18-year-old man was arrested from his home on Sunday on suspicion of murder. Another 18-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident on Friday remains in custody after police were granted further time to question him.
Detective Inspector Harry Harrison, from West Midlands CID, said: “Our investigation is moving swiftly and we have received immense support from the public, however I would still ask anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t spoken to police to come forward.
“In particular I would like to speak to a young woman who was nearby pushing a pram as the incident happened and was clearly distressed by what she saw. I would like to reassure the community that we are building a very clear picture of what happened on Friday evening and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with Sheriff Mybe’s murder. Our thoughts remain with his family as they continue to come to terms with his death.”
Meanwhile, police are continuing to examine a white Audi recovered from Ladywood which was used to take Sheriff to hospital and a trawl of CCTV from the area is providing vital evidence.
