Regional Leaders To Press Gambia’s Jammeh To Go: Nigeria

Ecowas leaders met Jammeh to persuade him to handover power

(JollofNews) – West African political leaders are to return to The Gambia this week to press President Yahya Jammeh to abide by election results and step down, Nigeria’s foreign minister said Monday.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is to visit Banjul on Wednesday with Liberian counterpart Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Ghana’s former president John Dramani Mahama, Geoffrey Onyeama said.

The meeting would “discuss with President Jammeh the imperative to respect the constitution”, the foreign minister added in a statement after talks on the crisis in Abuja.

Buhari and Mahama have been appointed mediators by the regional bloc ECOWAS in the stand-off, which was sparked by Jammeh’s loss of December 1 elections to opposition candidate Adama Barrow.

Onyeama said the talks “agreed on the determination to resolve the Gambian political crisis in a manner that at every step of the way conforms with the constitution… and respects the will of the people of The Gambia”.

Those involved in the talks were concerned with worsening security, including a crackdown on the media, which has seen a number of radio stations taken off air.

There has also been a “mass exodus” of people into the interior and neighbouring countries, Onyeama said.

  1. I think Buhari and others should tell the self-acclaimed Babili Mansa on Wednesday that the game is up and that they would no longer tolerate his foibles after January 18. Jammeh has the brain of a toddler and unless he is told off he would not get out of that place. Please, be tough on the Banjul bully on Wednesday.

  2. This is the endgame for our kanilai EVIL MURDERER; yaya Jammeh is a DEVIL in human flesh who is perished; just like Pharaoh & IBLIZ(A) Lucifer & the all rest of them…
Gambians have spoken on December 1st; NO amount of DEVILLING will alter that; it’s the WILL of the peasantry Gambians as Constitutionally enshrined OR the highway for the EVIL kanilai KILLER DEVIL… ECOWAS UQQAT this time around as contrast to “Foday (Kaba Dumbuya) Uqqat” is the codenamed operation to consolidate the total liberation…
    Long live the Gambia…

  3. I don’t blame yaya jammeh for all the nonsense he’s done to Gambians. We have no one but ourselves to blame, how long has he been killing us, torturing us and jailing us without anyone saying a thing. Yaya is evil and burn in hell, he’s born for nothing and he’s the worst creature I have ever seen. He’s wicked and doesn’t believe I n God. Gambians are ready to take back their country and there’s nothing stupid yaya can do. That so called army Commander who doesn’t even know how to spell his name cannot threaten anyone, he’s a big fool

  4. if this idiot does not handover wen hz mandate ends, they should use force.i don’t see the fool handing over peacefully.u can’t fight everyone.the fool should learn from Gbagbo

  5. Traitors behave just like how Sheriff Bojang and others do.

Yahya expect that many of their tribesmen will abandon you, but remain steadfast and reaffirm your position “backward never forward ever. God is ever powerful and Inshallah they will all regret their acts. As the wollof saying goes “Sosseh du sosal ken” they are devillish and only want to see your downfall but they will never live to see that. Note that with their treacherous plans in their defections none will ever survive to see your downfall. It is now clear to you that with all what they were saying in niceties and praise singing they were undermining you just to see your downfall but God the all knowing and everpowerful is and will continue to.protect you from their evil machination. INSHALLAH.
