The Gambia Accused Of Identity Genocide Against People Of Senegal

A member of Senegal’s Parliament has rung the alarm bell over, what he believes, is a looming identity genocide against the Senegalese people living in communes along the Gambia-Senegal border.

MP Omar Ceesay Souvane represents an area near the border but he suggested to Senegal’s Parliament that The Gambia is up to an identity genocide by issuing its national documents to Senegalese nationals along the border.

“This is scary and we need to be pragmatic about it otherwise we’ll all become Gambians,” he told the House lately.

The MP accused the Gambian authorities of lubricating the acquisition of Gambian documents to Senegalese nationals whenever elections were due.

“Half of our people in communes near The Gambia are Gambians,” he rued.

MP Souvane further accused the Gambian authorities of opening multiple fronts for its alleged genocidal identity warfare.

He cited Kanjalong, Kanjong Mangara, Ginabi, Njamala Kerr, Njamakuta, Bokal Tonko, Fawu, JaKunda, Bonaja, among others, as communes where the Gambian authorities have made significant successes in their identity warfare.

“Half of the people in these communes are now Gambians,” he told the hushed House in an apparent attempt to galvanize efforts for the protection of Senegalese identity.
