The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed seven naval personnel after an internal investigation found them guilty of colluding with a clandestine network in operations that compromised national security.
The officers were fired with immediate effect for “conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline,” in violation of Section 78 (1) of the GAF Act, 1985.
Their dismissal followed the arrest of two privately owned speed boats and a yacht on 14 May, 5 and 12 June this year, which authorities linked to activities that undermined both national security and the integrity of naval operations.
Military intelligence, working alongside other security agencies, uncovered what it described as “compelling evidence of deliberate and coordinated misconduct.” Among the findings were:
- Unauthorized preparation and launch of two privately owned boats.
- Cell site and communications data tying the men directly to the operations.
- Corroborated statements and observation of coordinated movements.
- Acceptance of cash and material rewards, including Tobaski rams.
- Compromised operational integrity and betrayal of assigned duties.
The dismissed personnel are:
- Lieutenant (N) Abba Nyassi
- Fleet Chief Petty Officer (FCPO) Musa Dampha
- Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) Ismaila Jobe
- Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Musa Jammeh
- Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Alagie Secka
- Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Ebou Marong
- Leading Seaman (LS) Lamin DK Sanneh
According to the Armed Forces, the men aided a clandestine network operating under the name Altima Sea Sport Limited, which is now under investigation for activities “inconsistent with its declared purpose.”
“Their continued presence in the Armed Forces, particularly within the Navy, would pose a clear and unacceptable risk to operational security and mission integrity,” GAF said in its statement.
The military stressed that the actions were not isolated lapses but “organized and premeditated acts that undermined public trust and the integrity of the service.”
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on collusion and corruption, the GAF said discipline and loyalty remain central to its mission and that any breach of trust will be met with decisive action.
