Sabally Accuses Essa Mbye Faal Of Funding Youth Protests, Labels Him “Chief Vulture”

Momodou Sabally, president of the National People’s Party (NPP) Youth Wing, has accused prominent lawyer and leader of the All People’s Party-Sobeyaa (APP-Sobeyaa) Essa Mbye Faal of financing recent youth-led protests in The Gambia.

Speaking at an NPP reunion meeting in Kerr Serign, Sabally alleged that Faal is among those “bankrolling” young people to destabilise the country. He went further, branding Faal as the “Chief Vulture of the Republic of The Gambia.”

Sabally also linked Faal to unrest beyond The Gambia, claiming that the lawyer and his team were behind incidents in Sierra Leone. He reminded the crowd that Faal once served as a defense lawyer for former Liberian president Charles Taylor, who was convicted of war crimes.

“Would you accept such a person as your president?” Sabally asked supporters, urging them to “send Mr. Faal away” if he visits their communities.

The former presidential affairs minister warned youths against joining protests, saying demonstrations have led to destruction in countries like Libya and Syria. Instead, he advised young Gambians to focus on education or sports such as football and volleyball.

According to Sabally, opposition parties are backing a specific youth group with the aim of inciting conflict in the country.

He called on supporters to stand firm behind President Adama Barrow, crediting the administration with “significant development” projects including schools, electricity expansion, and road construction.
