Ex-No-To Alliance Leader Yahya Tamba Announces Birth Of NARD Party

Former leader of the No-To-Alliance political movement Yahya Tamba now has his sights set on No.1 Marina Parade as he announced the birth of his own political party on Sunday.

Tamba officially declared his intention to run for President solo several months after his summary dismissal from the No-To-Alliance movement by its Supreme Leader former President Yahya Jammeh. His yet-to-be registered political party is called the National Alliance for Reconstruction and Development (NARD).

Speaking in a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Tamba explained that the move to form NARD was necessitated by his desire to have a bona fide political party that would fully participate in providing scrutiny over the running of public affairs.

“We are monitoring what is happening in this country,” Tamba told journalists.

Commenting on the No-To-Alliance splinter group of the APRC, Tamba explained that the movement was able to win seats in the legislature and local governments, despite its unregistered status. These gains, he added, were made as a result of the group’s determination to participate in national development.

“The No-To-Alliance was able to produce national assembly members and councillors with a view to having a say on national issues,” he explained.

Tamba made an emphatic call on Gambians to rally behind NARD “in order to address the issues affecting this country.”
