Innocuous Firewood Selling Expedition In Banjul Turns Into Unholy Act Of Mobile Theft

Dan Faal, a Senegalese national resident in Banjul, on Wednesday went to one compound in Banjul to sell firewood, but decided to steal a mobile phone there after realizing that the owner of the house that he went to sell wood wasn’t around.

Dan was brought to the Banjul police station on Wednesday morning, where he was charged and his case subsequently referred to the prosecution unit of the Gambia Police Force (GPF).

“I went to the house of one lady to sell firewood but I couldn’t meet her and as I was about to go, I saw a mobile phone and took it,” Dan confessed.

He told the police that he was a regular visitor to the house, but said he could not resist the temptation to steal this time around as he was cash-trapped.

“I took it[ the phone] because things are tough with me, financially,” he told the police.

The iphone was reportedly worth D20,000.

Dan told this reporter that he hailed from Yarakh in the Dakar suburb of Pikine.
