Momodou Justice Darboe, the editor-in-chief of JollofNews, will appear before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court on Monday after the Gambia Police Force (GPF) authorised on Wednesday that he be prosecuted for causing “common nuisance”.
Darboe was initially charged with assaulting police officers in due execution of their duties, but the charge sheet was on Wednesday amended by the police.
He provided one Gambian surety and was remanded on a D50,000 bail bond.
The JollofNews editor was assaulted at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court by men later identified as police officers as he took pictures of suspects outside the courtroom on 11 March 2026. He was detained at the Banjul police station for more than six hours and has been reporting to the Banjul police station on bail since then.

Police prosecutor Superintendent Fatou Faal Kujabi on Wednesday commanded Darboe to report to the prosecution unit of the GPF on Monday morning for his arraignment before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
