New York Letter With Alagi Yorro Jallow: I Grieve With Palestine

Alagi Yorro Jallow

Israel is responsible for the deaths of the 60 Palestinians killed. And that brutality must be condemned as a crime against humanity.
At the same time, I’m deeply horrified that 12 African countries stood on the wrong side of history (again) while this was happening.

You’d think we’d learned from our failure as a state to stand up to apartheid -era South Africa.

Shame on the governments of 12 African countries who participated in Israel’s celebrations of the U.S. embassy’s move to Jerusalem—Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Zambia. When the Israeli army killed 60 Palestinian protests, South Africa withdrew its ambassador and condemned the killing of Palestinian protestors at the Gaza border. Egypt and most European Union countries boycotted the event.

  1. The unnecessary loss of life especially human lives is always a tragedy. Unfortunately for Palestine, a more powerful neighbor that is bent on flexing it’s superior military power is being supported and celebrated by the Judo-Christian fascist agenda of Europe and America. Palestinians will be shedding tears of loss and sadness for a long time to come. Time and again, flickers a light of peace and relative calm. But the war industry of the West needs a steady cash flow. And peace and relative serenity, well….., that just does not turn in fat dollars. I, like you, grieve with the Palestinians for the barbaric onslaught on their right to a territory and a nation. Full Stop!!

Yorro I intend to put you on the hot seat at this stage. This is not going to be palatable for you, me and all the readers.
Now let’s talk a little about all the massacres and conflicts that has happened in our continent and those that continue to flare. In Liberia, in Sierra Leone, in Cassamance, in the DRC, in Burundi and Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Southern Sudan. The list does not have to be exhaustive for you to get the picture.
The world (including African countries) always acts blind to these sufferings because it has become the norm. Blacks suffering is even more acceptable than animals suffering. That’s the hard fact and it’s horrendous. Let’s reel back to all the television images we see of suffering human beings in the world and roughly compare the amount of world attention received by Africa, Asia, Europe and America, even far flung Australia.

When a few whites, Arabs or Asians die, you can be sure of continuous media coverage at least for six months or more depending on regionality, economic status, the nature of the preceding event etc. For Africans and black people, it becomes a quick passing by of the cameras and the journalist. A month of coverage and post developmental follow-ups will be very generous. End of story and the world moves on. I remember an Imam (don’t want to name him) sobbing on the pulpit in 2007 for the atrocities taking place in Palestine. I asked a friend after the Jumu‘a prayers if he has sobbed for the people of Sierra Leone during the war in that country when nothing less than two hundred people have been killed every day? So you see Arab suffering is considered even by our people to be abnormal whilst black suffering is accepted in its entirety.

Yorro here are my questions to you and you are under no obligation to answer them:
    1) What do you think is responsible for this phenomenon?
    2) Have you being grieving with the innocent people of the African countries I mentioned above?
    3) Have you taken the time to consider writing a periodical series on themes and topics that are central to Africa and black existence in an anti-black world.
    4) Above all, what do you think it will take to bring that awareness to all black people of different shades and cultural demographics?

Yours in the service of The Gambia and Africa, I remain.

    • Dr Isatou Sarr

Too much information for us lesser men and women. Slow down Lamin. Alagi deserve to answer these questions one at a time so we can all digest the information.
I have questions for Lamin, but there is too much here to tackle in one comment, so lets just do the first part of the post.
What is Judeo-Christian fascist agenda and is there a parallel Islamic fascist agenda with the political ideology in Persia and some parts of Asia. What is the relationship between what seems to be a purely economic agenda, fascism and religion.

  2. Luntango (Nijaye)

Doc: Are you claiming “ESN” status (LoL)

  3. Judeo-Christian Fascism:

This Ideology is premised on the superiority of the white race (whites and Jewish people; both Caucasians) sanctioned by an Abrahamaic religion. By extension, the interpretation of those books (old and New Testaments) slavery and colonialism are justified. They are the supposed choosen ones and by blood, the rest are the…….you fill in the gap.

I shall move on to the other part of your question in accordance with your desire to have shorter answers.

  4. Islam, or at least political Islam on the other hand, did not have a racial superiority agenda. The “jihadist” were more interested in territory and converts rather than proclaiming their own eminence and exploiting the economics of race. That does not absolve Arabia of black slavery, however, the practice of poaching black people by Arabs is pre-Islamic. So fascism is not an element in any aspect of Islam as we know it.
Get ready for the third part.

    • Dr Isatou Sarr

Hold it. A prevalence attitude is the maltreatment of Africans by average people in the Middle East who see us as inferior, really “slaves”. This is encouraged and accepted in their social life. Is that not modern day racial superiority embedded in their psyche, so why are you so quick to give them a pass and act like others have a monopoly on this.

      • I did NOT say the Arabs are not racist in their in their contacts with black people. Yes, they are as hell!
I think you should begin to make a distinction between African and black. They can be two different categories. Meaning get lost in changing one for the other.

    • Interesting,
Lamin, “however, the practice of poaching black people by Arabs is pre-Islamic. ”
I was led to believe that slavery came around the same time Arabs came into Africa, the Africans had to convert to Muslims if they wanted to do trade(money talks) with the Arabs, as far as I understand we were never Muslims or Christians (the Songhai Empire comes to mind with the king converting to Muslim) come to think of it, but very spiritual, ie. Sun or son(as spelt originally) worshippers.
Anyways those who would not convert to Muslim would be “poached” and sold.

      • Grim reaper, “you were led to believe” says it all. The question to ask will be who led you to believe?
You see the white man is a very funny creature. They write our history because they claim to know it and feel it better. That’s the first lie followed by ALL what they have written about us and our history. That’s why I don’t read white authored black histories. You should also do the same.
And, I have promised myself that I won’t be producing any literary or literacy works in any European languages at a certain age. But that’s not all. I will stop speaking European languages at a certain age altogether. Then I will create social movements around those radical ideologies to fight against the savages till the day I die.

  5. I can’t answer the final part of your question Doc, without first getting some clarification on this:
To you, what is this seemingly pure economic agenda? Is it the annexation of Palestinian territories or America’s love affair with Israel?

  6. Dr Isatou Sarr

I am not splitting hairs here, both are lucrative enterprise in the anti resolution industry. Therefore I see US long standing support of Israel and Israeli annexation as same, regardless of public proclamation.

  7. Luntango (Nijaye)

Sorry Lamin, I agree with Dr on this: racism is racism – Chinese, Arab, Russian, European. They are all as bad as each other.
BUT Lamin, your initial response to this peace, from which the good doctor has so deftly distracted you as only a smart woman can, was to the point:-
    1. Saudis and other Arabs are involved in WHOLESALE GENOCIDE in Yemen – with the help of the USA;
    2. Saudis and other Arabs FUNDED the Islamic State that has killed nearly A MILLION in Syria and Iraq – and displaced up to 10 million people;
    3. Saudi Arabia and Islamic State continue to create this crimes with USA & ISRAELI WEAPONS.
With this in mind, why is Palestine ISSUES a concern to us Africans when Arabs themselves DON’T CARE – and when we have OUR OWN SUFFERINGS in AFRICA.

    • Dr Isatou Sarr

No Dida, there is no intent to distract, there are 2 separate discussion here. Lamin raised several interesting issues in his response to Alagi’s post, that I am hoping Alagi will oblige us with answers to. I was simply looking for clarification to his response for my edification.

  8. I think we are talking over each other here. I was making a distinction between how Judaism and Christianity are used to justify racial genocide. Islam on the other hand was never interpreted in such a fashion to claim superiority over the “others”. This does not mean Arab culture is free from racism. In fact racism has permeated every corner of the world. Probably even more so Arabia.
So there is nothing to argue about there.
So I don’t know what there is to disagree about.

  9. @ Isatou wrote:What is the relationship between what seems to be a purely economic agenda, fascism and religion?

Answering the final part of your question brings some vexing memories about some of the not-so-nice conversations you and I had on a previous thread.
Why the vexation? Because it depresses me that an intellectual and a professional person like you will fail to see that the world ONLY functions on a libidinal economy created by whites at the expense of black people from yesterday to today and even for tomorrow. You or any other person can claim not to know or understand this life and death situation. But the fact remains this: By not making the necessary strides to be woke, one could be inadvertently contributing to the further oppression of oneself and the community.
Let’s move on to your question: you see the world economic order as it is today, is born out of anti-black racism and European slavery on Africans. What might appear to you at first glance to be a purely economic agenda is buried in racial politics, that in turn drives the economic interests. Judaism and Christianity are interpreted to lend credence to these barbaric actions.

I will stop here for now until Yorro responds.

    • Luntango (Nijaye)

Lamin, you gonna wait in vain, so I am gonna help you!
My daughter has Religious Education exams on Monday and is pestering her dad with questions. This one is “Dad what is ORIGINAL sin?”
Dad answers:- “Original sin” is the Judeo-Christian belief that Adam and Eve SINNED FOR US all and we are ALL GUILTY and we will go to hell UNLESS we are SAVED by our belief in JESUS CHRIST the SON of GOD.
For you Lamin I would add:
“That is why we Judeo-Christians captured those heathens from Africa and brought them to Christianity in America … and that is why we are bombing all the HEATHENS (or “Terrorists”) today: they don’t belief in Our Lord The Saviour, are ALL sinners, and they will all go to hell anyway (and their OIL should belong to the SAVIOUR’S DISCIPLES – US!)

      • Luntango (Nijaye)

And, as SLAVES the heathens were serving the LORD – by serving his DISCIPLES (US!) and make life easier for us so that we can WORSHIP the Lord while the slaves were in the fields growing cotton and cutting sugar-cane … and were also in the kitchen preparing the milk and honey for the Lords Disciples (US!).
Kanye West says: “We negroes willingly accepted to be slaves in order to serve the Lord”. AMEN!

  10. Dida you will make a splendid script writer for both screen and theater productions. Go for it!
Visualization is very essential in re/connecting with that which is and or used to be.

  11. Kanye’s gaffe blunder while
“high” (on intoxicants) on show bravado to stay relevant was “no-brainer”; which he tirelessly came to twisty manoeuvre to undo, once it effectively compound, in fact West have lost the remnants of his “credibility” if fame in a domain (entertainment) recklessly, can be misinterpreted to equate “relevancy” to fellow human being: Kanye West & Devil(onald) Trump are (a 6 &9) two sides of the very same ‘thrumping coin’….?
