Afcon 2120: Sierra Leone Coach Receives Death Threats

Coach John Keister

Sierra Leone’s national football team coach John Keister has been the target of a series of death threats over his squad selection for the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off in Cameroon on January 9th, 2022.

The England-born Sierra Leonean coach has reportedly been under pressure to unveil his players for the tournament and has been threatened with death should he overlook a specific player for his final squad list.

The player in question has not been named.

Keister had earlier named a provisional 40-man squad on December 20th as part of the Leone Stars’ preparations for their third ever Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Dependable sources close to the Sierra Leone Football Association say the Leone Stars coach is poised to drop twelve players from this provisional squad as the December 30th deadline set by the Confederation of African Football for participating countries to name their 28-man squads approaches.

Like other teams taking part in the finals in Cameroon, Keister’s main picks have mainly been foreign-based players.

Sierra Leone is in Group E with Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea.

They will open their campaign against the Fennec Foxes of Algeria on January 11, 2022.
